As part of a free weekend event organised by North Yorkshire Open Studios (NYOS), an estimated 120 artists in the region will be opening their doors to the public over two weekends in June. The annual event spanning across the whole of North Yorkshire, NYOS’ website describes locations from ‘Harbourside huts in Whitby and Scarborough to suburban living rooms in Harrogate’.
Taking part is Sculptor Geoff Rushton who will open his gallery and studio to welcome anyone interested in learning artistic techniques. Based in the Skipton area, Geoff has secluded himself in his country studio making renovations to prepare for the weekend. The event will unveil the beginnings of his promising space, he states, ‘I've got a lot of plans for the place and this private view will be your first chance to see it looking like a really nice studio space’.
The artist shares his aim for the space as place to ‘Start helping other artists and interested people in the area who are looking for a place to be 'arty', sharing my knowledge, tools’. A truly ‘arty’ space indeed as he invites ‘Anyone and everyone to 'make their mark' by painting whatever they like on the walls and ceiling of one of the rooms!!’
Don’t miss your chance to take a peek behind the scenes of working artists’ studios. The regional event commences on the 10th – 12th and 18th -19th June. For more information on North Yorkshire Open Studios click here. For more information on Geoff Rushton and his work click here.
